City & Guilds

City & Guilds is the United Kingdom's (UK) largest and best known vocational awarding body. The primary purpose of City & Guilds is to encourage vocational education and training and provide vocational qualifications which are recognized worldwide.the qualification developed by City & Guilds are designed to provide a combination of practical experience and theoretical knowledge.They are therefore recognized by employers as evidence that the holder has the right skills to do a particular job, yet equally they provide a route to further and higher education and training.

The qualifications are offered at three levels, Technician Certificate, Technician Diploma, Advanced Technician Diploma allowing students progression to higher learning or employment. The Diploma provides scope for entry into Universities and Institutes of Higher Education and the Advanced Diploma provide direct access into the second year of a first degree course in Engineering.

At each level, the candidates could choose whether to take:

‘THEORY AWARDS’ - written exams only (fixed dates)
Or
• ‘APPLIED AWARDS’ - written exams plus practical assessments**

(**These are marked locally and verified by an (external) Visiting Verifier who is a subject expert either from Industry or the Public Sector of Higher Education who is employed by City & Guilds to advise on and assess practical work undertaken by our approved centres)
